Busy busy busy

June 16, 2012

The past week has been somewhat hectic.  The festival commenced yesterday, and runs for the week, so there’s been lots to do.  Not least creating the masterpiece that is our 7ft high alien.  The last time i did papier mache must have been a good 30 years ago, so i was somewhat ill prepared for the amount of time and effort that goes into making a giant alien head.  Actually it’s not the making that takes the time, it’s the bloody drying.  Takes FOREVER.  And so what i’d estimated as a day or two’s work turned into a very very long week.  Tried desperately to get no1 child involved, but his dedication to the project lasted approx. 10 minutes, although i did get him to do a good 15 minutes on the painting of it.  He is though very excited by the finished thing, and incredibly proud of it, feeling that he has contributed more than enough to claim ownership.  It would be churlish of me to disagree.

Annoyingly, i am a judge, and so whilst i obviously want to give us a massive prize, it might be considered a tad off.  Arse.  Though i am relieved that it does stand up to scrutiny and when pitted against the other entries isn’t that shabby – unlike my normal artistic endeavours which inevitably remain better in my head than in actuality.

Also been baking like a crazed thing.  My mouth, as i type, is sticky with sweetness, having baked 36 carrot cupcakes, 2 coffee and walnut cakes and a ‘death by chocolate’ truffle cake in the last 36 hours.  I heard that the WI were giving some cakes and so my competitive edge came to the fore – i’ll be damned if they’ll out bake me!!!  Silver lining is that I am cured for at least a week of ever wanting to see/eat a cake again.  Though have found an innovative use for the steriliser – which wasn’t really doing it’s job anymore anyway.

Oh. No. The typo gives it away. Have realised that that was not in fact my mother’s comment, despite coming from her email. That would be my deeply funny little sister (aka bad auntie). Ho Ho Ho.
